Deb, our CFO (Chief Fika Officer), was raised in the Hudson Valley, where she developed an early appreciation for strong coffee, sweeter-than-necessary treats, and the fine art of procrastination via pastry-making.
Her Story
Her love for all things caffeinated and cozy took her to the Scandic region, where she lived, studied, and worked—fully embracing the sacred ritual of fika and developing an undying devotion to proper black licorice. Somewhere along the way, she also became fascinated by bold, playful Danish design—the kind that makes you obsess about whether a café can be both a cozy haven and a mild architectural flex. (Spoiler: it can).
Now back in Dutchess County, she’s on a never-ending quest for the ultimate cardamom bun and a life-sized Marabou chocolate river. She dreams about stepping into the sugar-coated, chaotic world of Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory—but as Lisbeth Salander, hacking factory surveillance, exposing questionable labor practices, and leading the Oompa Loompas to freedom. Until that day, she hopes Fika & Hygge—a Valkyrie-owned and operated adventure in caffeine and confections—brings you flavor combinations you didn’t know you couldn’t live without.
